HPA and SMPTE News

Dear HPA Members,

We have some exciting news to announce about the future of HPA. This week we signed an agreement with SMPTE® – the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers® – for them to provide administrative support to HPA.

As our HPA Board looked at the best path forward for the organization following the announcement that our long standing Executive Director Eileen Kramer wished to reduce her workload, we looked at many scenarios that would prepare HPA for its next steps. In SMPTE, we have found a partner who not only understands our industry, but is also a terrific fit with us.

This partnership gives both SMPTE and HPA the opportunity to extend their reach and serve our memberships, while better serving the whole industry – from the engineering and technical professionals to the creative community that the HPA celebrates and supports.

In addition to the agreement for SMPTE to provide administrative services to the HPA, the Boards of both organizations have approved a road map that will lead to an even tighter integration of HPA within SMPTE. While our goal is to become part of our industry’s foremost global association, HPA will continue to have its own unique identity and culture within SMPTE. This is important to both organizations and a key to why we feel that HPA strengthens SMPTE and SMPTE strengthens HPA.

As we move to embrace this new relationship, with its exciting new possibilities, there are a number of things that will continue as they were. Long time HPA employees Alicia Rock and Max Ma will continue to provide HPA members with support for events and online communications respectively. In addition, Eileen Kramer will continue to help drive the success of our Technology Retreat in the role of 2015 Tech Retreat Project Manager.

We are indeed looking forward to some exciting times ahead for HPA and thank you for your continued support. In the coming weeks and months we will be announcing more details of our partnership with SMPTE.

We look forward to continuing to help our industry meet the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead in this exciting time in the industry.

We’d love to hear from our members about this new development. Click here (or see below) to comment and be part of the conversation!

All the best,

Leon
