AMIA 2023 Call for Proposals

AMIA

The AMIA Conference Committee invites proposal submissions for sessions, posters, and workshops for the AMIA Annual Conference to be held November 15-17 in Tulsa.

The Conference Committee works to present a broad-based program that speaks to a wide range of attendees with a balance of theory and practice, inviting new ideas and concepts that stimulate additional interest, involvement, and educational benefit. In keeping with their goals to be inclusive, they urge proposers to use AMIA Conference sessions as an opportunity to include new voices and offer diverse viewpoints.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to read the Call for Proposals Notes and FAQ which explain the review process and offers information and tips on what the reviewers and the Conference Committee consider in the proposal process. The Conference Committee will hold Office Hours in May to answer questions and provide advice about putting together proposals and the proposal process. The Proposal Help Desk is available to answer any questions throughout the process.

The Committee has created a Google spreadsheet to connect individuals seeking ideas and/or collaborators for session and workshop proposals. The spreadsheet is provided as a means of communication only: the Committee does not monitor the document and it is not part of the official submission process.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the AMIA Small Gauge Symposium (2001) and the centennials for 9.5mm and 16mm film, the Small Gauge and Amateur Film Committee is excited to host a celebratory symposium as part of the 2023 annual AMIA conference. The symposium will take stock of accomplishments within our subfield over the last two decades, spotlight and examine current issues and concerns, and help determine priorities and directions for the near- and long-term future. Archivists, technicians, artists, scholars, researchers, and students alike are welcome to submit proposals for presentations, panels, roundtables, screenings, workshops, or demonstrations related to small gauge and amateur film. Co-organized by the SGAF co-chairs, Hugo Ljungbäck, Louisa Trott, and Patricia Ledesma Villon. The proposal form has an option to propose a session for the symposium.

Organizations and individuals are still at different stages of returning to conference travel, recognizing both the ongoing health concerns and economic environment. Those submitting a conference proposal should be fully committed to being part of the event through conference registration, travel and/or accommodations at the conference hotel or any combo of this, on acceptance of conference proposals. Keeping in mind AMIA’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the conference committee will do their best to honor and accommodate requests from those wishing to participate in the conference, and appreciate applicants’ understanding and cooperation.

Proposal deadline: May 30, 2023.
