ASC@IBC

American Society Of Cinematographers

The annual European trade show — running September 13-17 in Amsterdam at the RAI Centre — will help celebrate the ASC’s centennial with a special screening and panel presentation with ASC members on Saturday, Sept. 14 (12:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.). Six-time Oscar nominee Caleb Deschanel and three-time Oscar winner Robert Legato, respectively cinematographer and visual effects supervisor on The Lion King, will talk about their work on the film, using ground-breaking games engine technology. Joining them on stage will be Stijn van der Veken, cinematographer behind world-acclaimed Starz TV series Outlander, and president of the ASC Kees Van Oostrum. All the speakers are ASC members, and this session will be moderated by Carolyn Giardina, technology editor for The Hollywood Reporter. Van der Veken will focus on his highly acclaimed Starz series, which represents the new wave of big-budget cable, network and streaming productions. Also on Sept. 14, the ASC will hold an invitation-only event to kick off the 2020 celebration of the 100th anniversary of American Cinematographer magazine, which began publishing in November of 1920. The party will be held aboard a pair of canal boats, which will make their way to the famed EYE Filmmuseum for a champagne toast and a brief screening. The ASC and American Cinematographer will also have a presence on the show floor in Booth 12.C40, hosted by J.L. Fisher. Representing AC at IBC will be publisher and editor-in-chief Stephen Pizzello and advertising sales director Sanja Pearce. Society members and American Cinematographer staff take part in programming and special events.
