HPA Women in Post Launches Young Entertainment Professionals Program (YEP)

Ten YEP participants will be selected to participate at SMPTE 2016 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition

(Los Angeles, Calif.) 4 August 2016 – The Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) continues its commitment to the development of the next generation of professionals with the launch of the Young Entertainment Professionals Program (YEP), sponsored by HPA Women in Post and supported by SMPTE. YEP was created to encourage worthy individuals to follow a career in the media content industry and is one part of the HPA’s mentorship strategy.

The goal of YEP is to attract and mentor individuals in the workforce between the ages of 21 and 29 by introducing them to working professionals, connecting them with events and resources that will further their careers, and encouraging them to be active in the industry. Applicants do not have to be members of HPA or SMPTE, and there are no educational requirements. YEP is open to any man or woman interested in expanding their industry knowledge and building their media and entertainment career.

The inaugural mentoring event will take place at the SMPTE Annual Technical Conference on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in the heart of Hollywood.

In order to be considered for the YEP program, applicants simply need to complete an online application and secure one recommendation from an employer or professional project supervisor if an independent. Up to ten qualified candidates will be selected from the applicant pool by a jury of members of the Women in Post Committee. The YEP application deadline is September 15, 2016, and those selected will be notified by October 1, 2016.

On the 26th of October, SMPTE and HPA Women in Post will host the candidates selected as YEPs during an exclusive day at SMPTE’s 2016 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition, a linchpin event, attended by business leaders from all aspects of the motion picture and television industry. For YEPs, this presents a unique opportunity to build a peer community while participating in a full day of mentoring experiences, including private booth tours with technology companies, a roundtable luncheon, and entrance to the SMPTE-HPA Student Film Festival.

One or more YEPs with notable industry accomplishments will be recognized as HPA Emerging Leaders at the 2016 HPA Awards. This newly established honor is determined by the HPA Board and requires no separate application. Recipients will be notified by November 4, 2016.

Kari Grubin of Women in Post noted “I have seen the power of mentorship in the HPA. After the launch of Women in Post, we saw a need to establish access for young people. YEP puts structure around ensuring the best and the brightest are interested and encouraged in our industry for the next generation.”

Barbara Lange, Executive Director of SMPTE and HPA commented that “YEP represents the core mission of both organizations. To build an industry, educate its members and support the next generation. We are all eager to meet the YEPs during the SMPTE Conference in Hollywood.”
