Yves Bergquist Set to Keynote TR-X at HPA Tech Retreat

ETC unveils “AI, A Primer for Entertainment” at TR-X, unique program of engaging panels

BURBANK (February 5 2018) –– In its engaging sophomore outing, HPA’s Tech Retreat eXtra (TR-X) will launch the HPA Tech Retreat 2018 during a half-day, expert led pre-conference event entitled Everything You Thought You Knew About Artificial Intelligence in M&E and What You Didn’t Know You Didn’t Know. TR-X will take place on Monday, the 19th of February in Palm Desert, CA at the JW Marriott Resort & Spa in advance of the HPA Tech Retreat 2018.  Registration for TR-X is required, and can be added to HPA Tech Retreat registration, or as standalone attendance.

Yves Bergquist, Project Director Data Analytics, Entertainment Technology Center at USC, will present a keynote session to kick off TR-X. “Makeover or Takeover? Artificial Intelligence in Media & Entertainment” will explore the extreme amount of attention building around AI.  As Bergquist notes, “No technological development has created more buzz and sheer intellectual mayhem than artificial intelligence. As a data scientist with years of experience in AI research and development, I’d like to lift the veil on what it means for the industry. What is AI? What can we expect for it in media and entertainment? When? Which jobs will live, and which won’t? Will it help us take our stories higher?”

Bergquist brings a unique blend of experience to his role at ETC and also as CEO of AI engineering firm Corto, where he and his team help the entertainment industry build and deploy next-generation machine intelligence systems. At ETC, Yves and his team manage dozens of projects that apply machine learning to the challenges facing industry, including audience intelligence, semantic content classification, windowing, and AI-driven post-production. Their efforts include using social media conversations to model audience decisions in the theatrical window, developing the first audience intelligence application focused on the Chinese market, correlating narrative structures in film to theatrical performance, and a Deep Learning-driven semantic content classification application.

Yves is an expert in complex systems with experience modeling high-velocity markets for public and private sector clients. He was part of the founding team at Singularity University, a joint venture between Google and NASA, which aims to leverage Artificial Intelligence and other exponential technologies to help solve the world’s greatest problems. In his role at ETC, which he joined in 2015, Bergquist leverages his technical background and lifelong love of storytelling to apply computational thinking and data science to the storytelling process.

ETC will debut “AI, A Primer for Entertainment” at TR-X, which is expected to become a trusted source of information and go-to reference as AI and its influence grows.

HPA TR-X runs from 1pm to 5:15pm on Monday, February 19th, and offers a compelling lineup of panels and panelists. In addition to the Bergquist keynote, panels include:

  • Novel AI Implementations: Real World AI Case Studies
  • The Potential for Partnering with AI in the Creative Process
  • Content Intelligence: AI & Marketing
  • Bleeding Edge M&E Research
  • AI Vision Panel: What Will Happen and When?

Prompt registration for TR-X encouraged; it is expected to sell out. For further info, visit www.hpatechretreat.com.
