Colorfront Unveiled New SDR to Dolby Vision HDR Conversion Capability at the 2024 HPA Retreat; Release Enthusiastically Received by Attendees

Colorfront (colorfront.com), the multi-award-winning pioneer in high-performance dailies, transcoding, and streaming solutions for feature films, OTT, broadcast, and commercials, concluded its participation in the 2024 HPA Tech Retreat.

At the retreat, Colorfront revealed several enhancements to its industry-leading mastering and streaming solution, Transkoder. A conference highlight was the new Dolby Vision Conversion capability, which was developed with input from Dolby and powered by the Colorfront Engine. It is designed to convert SDR content into Dolby Vision HDR and generate Dolby Vision metadata, guaranteeing that the Dolby-derived SDR output visually matches the original SDR content. This roundtripping method ensures SDR content libraries can be converted to Dolby Vision HDR in a streamlined, efficient workflow. Customers have tested the SDR to Dolby Vision conversion workflows for several months, and it is now available to new and valid subscription Transkoder customers.

Other new features discussed and demonstrated included Colorfront’s new dead pixel detection tool, allowing Transkoder users to see automatically flagged dead pixels across original camera negatives, image sequences, and mastering formats. Colorfront discussed its API and cloud initiatives; the API program introduces enhanced tools for integration, offering APIs specifically for dailies and rendering workflows to streamline production processes. The cloud initiative offers several tools and workflows supporting AWS S3 Express One Zone.

The new functionality shown at HPA reinforces the value of the retreat as a venue for customer discussions, as well as Colorfront’s continued commitment to solving complex production and collaboration challenges while maintaining its focus on advancing the art of color science.

Colorfront will continue the rollout of all new features with events and product demonstrations across Los Angeles and at NAB 2024. For detailed information, visit colorfront.com.
