The Sally Menke Editing Fellowship will begin accepting applications starting Wednesday, March 1
The Sally Menke Editing Fellowship is entering its lucky 13th year and their application period for the 2023 fellowship is about to open. Application to this fellowship is invitation only. Below you’ll find a link to a detailed overview of the fellowship with information about eligibility and the application process, but here’s a brief summary:
- The Sally Menke Editing Fellowship will support an emerging fiction editor who has served as lead editor for at least one, but no more than four fiction features, and any number of shorts, documentary films, industrial films, or webisodes.
- The ideal candidate is committed to continuing a career in editing, passionate about collaboration and the creative process, and open to exploration and experimentation in the editing room.
- We hope to find an editor based in either LA or NYC, but the fellowship is open to all editors based in the U.S.
- The Menke Fellow must be available to attend the June Directors Lab in person at the Sundance Resort in Utah, anticipated dates May 31-June 12, 2023.
The Sally Menke Fellow will receive an invitation to join the American Cinema Editors as an Associate Member. Benefits of membership include receiving the ACE magazine, invitations to events and access to screeners, and the opportunity to vote for the Feature Film Best Editing categories as part of the ACE Awards. In addition, the Menke fellow will receive invitations to join periodic informal gatherings of the cohort of Menke Fellows, and will be included as part of the Art of Editing Event at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where the annual Menke fellow is acknowledged. Finally, the Menke Fellow will work as the editor for two of the Sundance Directors Lab fellows in June 2023.
Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, March 15.
Final decisions to select the 2023 Fellow will be made by Friday, April 2.
