About Janet Muswell Hamilton
Janet Muswell Hamilton is the Senior Vice President of Visual Effects at HBO, where she oversees visual effects across a dynamic slate of productions including Dune: Prophecy, The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, and Harry Potter. Prior to HBO, she served as Global Director of Visual Effects at Netflix, helping shape the streamer’s global VFX strategy.
A classically trained musician, Janet began her career in the UK editing music videos before moving into visual effects compositing. She relocated to the United States to pursue what she describes as “the digital revolution,” and her curiosity for emerging technology has since taken her around the world supervising and producing VFX, CGI, and animation for film, television, IMAX, and special venue projects.
Janet is a founding member of the Visual Effects Society and currently serves on the Women Who Lead Committee. She is a VES Fellow and a member of the Board of Governors of the Advanced Imaging Society. Passionate about mentorship and education, Janet leads HBO’s VFX Coordinator Course through the company’s DEI department. Having completed six global iterations of the program, she is actively helping to shape the next, more diverse generation of visual effects professionals.
