  • Danielle Feinberg, Director of Photography – Lighting Supervising Technical Director , Pixar Animation Studios

    Danielle Feinberg

    Director of Photography – Lighting Supervising Technical Director , Pixar Animation Studios

    Danielle Feinberg began her career at Pixar Animation Studios in February 1997, and since then, she has worked on nine of Pixar’s 14 feature films – “A Bug’s Life, “Toy Story 2,” “Monsters, Inc.” and the Academy Award®-winning “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles,” “Cars,” and “Ratatouille.” Feinberg was the director of photography-lighting for the Academy Award®- winning features “WALL•E,” “Brave,” and “Coco.” Recently she was the supervising technical director and director of photography-lighting on the SparkShort “Loop” and is currently the supervising technical director on “Turning Red,” set for release on March 11, 2022.

    At the age of 23, Feinberg’s first role at Pixar was as lead render technical director on “A Bug’s Life,” where she in charge of a team of nine people, eight of whom were older than herself.  She quickly discovered her love for lighting because of the unique combination of technology and art.

    Feinberg went on to work as a lighting artist on many of Pixar’s feature films, where she quickly moved up in the ranks – from master lighting artist on “Toy Story 2,” and “Monsters, Inc.” to lead lighting artist on the “The Incredibles.” On “Finding Nemo,” Feinberg took on the role of ocean unit CG supervisor, where she was responsible for the  teams creating the scenes in the depths of the ocean, the field of pink jellyfish and the rollercoaster ride with the turtles.

    For “WALL•E,” she returned to her passion of lighting as the director of photography-lighting. In that role she led a team of over 30 lighting artists to design and execute the photo-real “filmic” look envisioned by the film’s director.

    Feinberg was once again in a lead creative role as director of photography-lighting for “Brave,” which stars Pixar’s first female protagonist. She has continued that role on several Pixar features until stepping into a new challenge as supervising technical director on the SparkShort “Loop” and an un-announced Pixar feature currently in development.

    A native of Boulder, Colorado, Feinberg’s love of combining computers and art began when she was eight years old, and first programmed a Logo turtle to create images. This eventually led her to a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Harvard University. Now, in addition to her Pixar work, she enjoys photographing the real world with its ornery, non-virtual light, and works with teenage girls, encouraging them to pursue math and science by demonstrating to them the same beautiful simplicity she found with the programmed art of the Logo turtle.

Critical Conversations: Opera in the Pandemic

Join Mark Schubin in a panel discussion only he could host and put together. This panel will feature guests such as Kamala Sankaram of Experiments in Opera (who did the first VR opera, the first data-mining opera, and, in the pandemic, the first Zoom opera and the first sci-fi serial opera), librettist Cerise Lim Jacobs of White Snake Projects (who did “Alice in the Pandemic” with live motion capture and computer animation as well as distributed live performance), and director Eric Einhorn of On Site Opera (who was the first to use Google Glass for titles and the first to create a smartphone app for programs and titles and who, in the pandemic, has created some one-on-one opera via phone and has come up with even older media for opera).

Mark will talk about the broadcast industry technology that opera has inspired and the mind boggling complexity of opera production and the very real challenges that theatre and opera face within and after the pandemic.

  • Cerise Lim Jacobs, Creator and Librettist, White Snake Projects

    Cerise Lim Jacobs

    Creator and Librettist, White Snake Projects

    Cerise Lim Jacobs (Creator and Librettist) creates new American opera from her chequered past in multicultural Singapore and her sojourns around the world. Her original libretti are inspired by the myths that live in our imaginations and the excitement of current events and people she encounters.

    Cerise was born in colonial Singapore under British rule into a traditional Chinese family. She grew up absorbing the disparate influences of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western cultures and the world religions of Christianity (indeed, she was educated by American Methodist missionaries), Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism. During the turbulence following Singapore’s independence from Great Britain and its secession from Malaysia, when fear of the “yellow peril” was rampant in Southeast Asia, her family managed to emigrate to Australia, despite its “White Australia” Policy. She dropped out of school at the age of nineteen to follow her heart, and began a sojourn that took her from Melbourne to Oxford, England; East Lansing, Michigan; Vancouver; and Pittsburgh, until she finally settled in Boston, Massachusetts.

    Cerise graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, summa cum laude and from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude. She spent 20 years practicing law, including serving as a trial partner at Goodwin Procter LLP, one of the largest law firms in New England, where she specialized in criminal defense and patent litigation. She also served for five years as a federal prosecutor at the US Attorney’s Office in Boston as part of her commitment to public service. She was sworn in as a citizen simultaneously with being sworn in as an Assistant United State Attorney, one of the proudest moments of her life.

    Cerise is a lifelong student of living creatively as a means of achieving success across many disciplines. Since retiring from law, she has returned to her creative voice in opera, music, art, and food. She is the President of the Charles and Cerise Jacobs Charitable Foundation and has endowed the Charles M. Jacobs Fund for Equal Rights and Social Engagement at the University of Chicago Law School and College. She is a founder of White Snake Projects, (formerly, the Friends of Madame White Snake), a company which commissions, develops and produces original opera of the highest production values, combined with social activism; a co-founder, with her son Pirate Epstein, of the mobile gaming company SqueePlay; and, is a founding member of Evidox, an e-discovery company.

    Cerise has been named a 2017 Mover & Shaper by Musical America, an award given to music professionals for driving the performing arts towards a future shaped by their vision, and one of Boston’s 100 Most Influential People of Color in 2018.

Danielle Feinberg

Pixar Animation Studios

Danielle Feinberg

Cerise Lim Jacobs

White Snake Projects

Cerise Lim Jacobs

2021 HPA Tech Retreat Roundtables

Traditionally, the HPA Tech Retreat Breakfast Roundtables have been literal round tables at which participants eat breakfast and discuss issues. They have been one of the most popular parts of the retreat, even covered on local TV twice.

In 2021, the roundtables will be virtual and BYOB (bring your own breakfast — or lunch or supper or snack, depending on your time zone). Each will be limited to 12 participants at a time, including host/moderator. There will be five time slots:

  • Tuesday, March 16, 9-10 AM PT
  • Tuesday, March 16, noon-1 PM PT
  • Tuesday, March 23, 9-10 AM PT
  • Tuesday, March 23, 1-2 PM PT
  • Wednesday, March 24, 9-10 AM PT

As usual, anyone registered for the HPA Tech Retreat may host/moderate a roundtable in each time slot (until we reach capacity). Topics may be anything related to our industry. Topic titles should be on the brief side (e.g., “AI subtitling” instead of “Using artificial intelligence and machine learning to create subtitles for motion picture and television programming and direct streaming”). Roundtables will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis. There is no deadline, but the capacity limit will not be exceeded. There is no vetting (there is also no speaker discount conveyed by moderating/hosting a roundtable). There is no cost beyond registration for the HPA Tech Retreat.

Hosts/moderators may preach, teach, sell, kvell, ask, take to task, referee fights, or do anything else that keeps the conversation flowing for an hour. As the word “sell” suggests, breakfast roundtables are the only part of the retreat where marketing is acceptable. If more than one slot is selected, the topics may be the same or different. Topics may be changed up to the last minute at the host/moderator’s sole discretion. Even host/moderator may be changed, but the person requesting the slot is responsible for it being covered for the full hour, even if no one else shows up and even if the host/moderator would rather sit in on someone else’s roundtable.

Opera in the Pandemic

The pandemic hit opera hard. The Metropolitan Opera House closed in early March 2020 and isn’t expected to open until September 2021 at the earliest. Loud singing is a great way to spread the virus. Crowded stages, orchestra pits, and auditoriums make social distancing a problem; an intermission could become a super-spreader event. Yet opera companies, large and small, found ways to continue to work during the pandemic, largely through media technology. The panelists–a composer, a librettist, a director, and an administrator–represent four opera companies that had already pushed the limits before the pandemic, from recordings and movies to virtual reality and Google Glass. During the pandemic they’ve gone even farther, running the gamut from live motion capture and computer animation to opera by phone and even by mail. Technologies we use today, from the lighting dimmer to the parabolic microphone, were invented by or for opera. Will the pandemic opera technologies find their way into movies and television?

Something We Can All Agree On: Recommendations and Best Practice for Dailies QC

“A group of professionals working in Dailies around the world have been meeting since mid-2020. As a group, we identified a need for some consistency across the industry. Dailies are a part of the production process that may be done in one or more regions, often utilizing freelance talent and requiring a significant amount of time and resources for specialized training. This presentation will cover a small part of our larger project, Dailies QC. We have identified and built a database of taxonomy and definitions, and determined best practices and recommendations that are consistent and applicable to all projects regardless of studio, type, location or scale. This presentation will offer an insight into our process, our work so far, and specifically dive into the consistent recommendations and best practices we’ve developed for Dailies QC. “

High Quality from Home: How productions have found ways to bring technology to the living room during quarantine.

In a world before Covid, home video for the random family Skype call was expected to be anemic at best. Nothing was weighing on the quality other than the clarity of a family member’s face. But with the ongoing pandemic, productions have needed to find a way to provide high quality digital cinematography that is user friendly and manageable, either by untrained talent or using remote tools (or both).

Remote Post-Production Workflows at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

“As of March 2020, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation had to shift more than 90% of its workforce from its brick-and-mortar facilities to home. Virtualization had been under way for a while, already (e.g. cloud-based office), but for post-production the plan was still 5 years away. Or so we thought… This presentation will cover the fast-track, agile implementation of a fully virtualized post-production workflow, from initial stop-gap measures to the full implementation of a hybrid cloud-based post-production system to serve more than 4000 users in 45 regions with wildly varying bandwidth capabilities.”

Lessons Learned: COVID-driven Acceleration of Fourth-Generation M&E Infrastructure

When the COVID-19 pandemic required M&E companies to produce and distribute programming remotely, it also pushed the industry to set aside lingering objections around cost, control, and security, and embrace cloud media operations as a business necessity. Almost overnight, production companies, post houses, and broadcasters successfully performed creative collaboration, virtual production, and cloud-based video distribution, making a return to pre-cloud business as usual highly unlikely. Having worked with major industry leaders as they made this operational transformation, this session will discuss lessons learned across the industry, explore problems yet to be adequately addressed, and projects what the post-COVID future state entails.

Microservices in Media: Reality or Buzz?

“We’ll take a look at what’s really being implemented versus hype in the world of media microservices. There seems to be so much promise here, and if you believe the PR floating out there, it’s already happened, but has it? Is this something that’s really rolling out and making a difference in the business, or is it too early to really say that yet? We’ll talk to some of the companies on the bleeding/leading edge of this and see if we can get to the bottom of it!”

Exploring The Value and Practicality of 12K Acquisition

James Mathers, Cinematographer and Founder of the Digital Cinema Society, explores the value and practicality of 12K acquisition while testing the new Blackmagic URSA Pro 12K camera. In a tradition started in the early days of DCS, James puts new motion picture cameras to the test by shooting in a variety of situations, then posting footage to share with the community. Thus, the audience is enabled to make their own judgement about the merits of the technology. This presentation will be in much the same vein as one he gave at the 2008 Tech Retreat where he gave an unbiased introduction to RED’s first digital cinema camera, the RED One. Analysis and commentary will highlight some of the benefits of shooting 12K as well as some of the challenges. Sample scenes include tests to see if it is possible to accomplish proper looking multiple camera coverage using only one camera by taking advantage of the extra resolution to create closeups in post. Another sample is designed to evaluate the stabilization potential that extra resolution can offer.

Build, Buy ... or Don't Bother

Modern technology and various market dynamics have shifted the build-vs.-buy landscape for media companies. In order to find the right place on the continuum, it can be instructive to think in terms of optimizing the size of the technology chunks you buy. Our thesis is that is that the most agile and cost-effective next-generation tech stacks will comprise multi-tenant SaaS functional building blocks tied together with a thin layer of custom logic. Along the way, there’s an imperative today within media companies to re-think every workflow and seriously consider how it can be vastly simplified or even eliminated.

Making AI Work for Media and Entertainment Companies

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are technologies that enterprises across industries have been keenly experimenting with to explore the utility they can bring. M&E organizations are seeking automation, and can AI be the solution? In a post pandemic world where remote and distributed work model will be the new normal, an AI engine that can throw up accurate and actionable data in far lesser time will be highly cost efficient too. Imagine the herculean efforts on project collaboration, communications, and error mitigation that will get saved?

This presentation will showcase a Media Recognition AI platform specific to the M&E industry that brings together best-of-breed AI models (Microsoft, AWS, IBM Watson, and Google) and custom models (for M&E specific use cases) to focus on harnessing the best quality data. The combination of Technology and Consulting is to deliver accurate and actionable data, taking into consideration a customer’s specific business challenges and unique content. The updated data pack of the platform offers AI Metadata at three levels – Basic, Advanced, and Premium, along with data pack choices of Discovery, Video Comparison, Transcripts, and Compliance Data, allowing users to choose modularly deploying the requisite intelligence for a specific use case. The high quality, usable AI data, is brought alive by the patented Machine Wisdom layer that imparts cognitive benefits – it helps synthesize data and provides data in a context. In addition, it comes with powerful Action Toolkits, leveraging accurate and best quality data that offer 100% accurate and 100% frame-accurate identification of segments, near 100% automation of several content mastering and re-versioning operations for the content owners, 50%+ time savings and enhanced creativity in content discovery and promo creation workflows and 30-40% reduction in compliance edit time due to auto-identification of compliance issues across categories. It can also save time, effort, and cost significantly in subtitling operations.

You're Watching TV, but What Are You Really Watching? Formats vs. displays.

Despite amazing advances, today’s streaming experience does not match the carefully perfected visuals of the cinema or the calibrated monitor in the grading room. If the streaming services are banking on consumers truly embracing the cinema experience at home post-pandemic, then they need a technology platform and format designed specifically for the in-home experience. If you’ve been watching a lot of TV over the last year, you may well recognize the problem, even if you’re not exactly sure what’s causing it.

Who Wants to Data Millionaire

Within an hour long TV episode viewers will typically experience somewhere between 600 and 900 edit points. This means 600-900 times viewers will experience a unique composition, featuring a unique combination of spatial phenomena. On top of that, these shots must lead into one another, allowing for changes from the start of a shot to the end and confronting the “temporal contrast” that comes from having edit points at all.

During any season, throughout a show’s thousands of shots, production encounters specific technical imaging and perceptual failures and finds ways to cheat around them in order to get the image “good enough” for a general audience. However these images remain valuable even after production is complete, and in fact the archive of a complete season of episodes represents a treasure trove of naturally occurring perceptual phenomena. This presentation presents guidelines and examples for harvesting challenging images from real production and ways in which these images can be analyzed to further a better end user experience.

Rules of Engagement

The talk summarizes recent research on human sensing; how an adult mostly perceives the world based on previous experience, and on reach-out mechanisms linked to expectations. Such findings could influence entertainment systems, for instance to better accommodate active sensing. Sound and music’s newfound potential as euphoria-inducing stimuli is also detailed, along with specific production and reproduction qualities in support of such sensation. Failing to observe these new “rules of engagement” will likely lead to some content or platforms being less attractive than others that do.

Just-in-Time Supply Chain

Over the past year we (Eluvio) have been involved in building out the core technology capabilities for a “just-in-time” supply chain for Film and TV. This approach has now been deeply deployed by two Hollywood studios and one major broadcaster in 2020, accelerated by the need to monetize deep libraries fast, reduce costs, and to do it ‘online’ during COVID, in order to build several all new self-service properties that cover selling, screening, catalog licensing, asset servicing, clips licensing and direct-to-audience ticketed exhibition from source libraries of premium film and television content.

In this talk we will explain how the pipeline actually works by generating consumable streaming and electronic sell through (EST) output from a newly published title, through a full life cycle, LIVE (in 20 minutes), to prove the just-in-time reality.

The flow will consist of the following steps and is representative of the sites that the above studios and broadcasters have deployed during 2020.
1. Publishing a pre-release master to create a serviceable content object;
2. Adding title and contract metadata from their authoritative sources;
3. ML tagging the serviceable object on the ingest;
4. Configuring an internationalized variant on the in place object (with localized audio, subtitles/captions, and static locale specific assets eg posters);
5. Adding the resulting content object to a site object (for presentation);
6. Permissioning the title and linked assets for pre-release availability, adding assets to it (marketing trailers) with different permission windows than the title,
7. Issuing secured tickets to authorized user groups;
8. And consuming the streamable and EST output (with DRM) in a browser and on AppleTV using the issued tickets.

Finally, if time permits we will also show a second monetization case for a self-service clipping site, where the title metadata is searched to find matching scenes, and clipping points are selected by ML identified scene boundaries, and clips are instantly available through a dynamic offering that uses those offset points, for JIT download.

This talk will utilize the technology of the Eluvio Content Fabric, which won a gold level prize in the HPA 2020 Engineering Excellence award. The approach includes the following new technologies:
– just-in-time rendering of streaming and downloadable versions of premium content for viewing, clipping, and electronic sell through from the source elements;
– permissioned per title, per asset, per ‘version’ offerings (territorial localization, watermarking, and alternative content and metadata);
– data-driven availability policies (time range of access, number of accesses, geo restrictions, user location or group membership) bound to a software (blockchain) contract on the titles and assets;
– automatic ingest and translation of legal contract data to these software contract policies;
– the ability to issue one time tickets (secure codes) for access;
– an in platform video understanding pipeline based on machine learning that automatically tags incoming content with identified celebrities, places, brands, and activities, and provides deep search of these ML tags and ingested title metadata;
– linked content, metadata, and code with static ‘slugs’ for UIs (browser, mobile, smartTV) to access the dynamic content.

Dolby Vision Derived SDR Survey

Dolby Vision has been adopted by all the top studios for HDR content creation. Through the color grading process of creating the metadata, an SDR trim pass is created and approved. Several studios call for that version to be the finished SDR master, with creatives having some discussion as to the capabilities and resulting quality. In response, Dolby created a worldwide tour across 10 cities to demonstrate the capabilities of the tools and conducted a survey of over 550 people to see how the Dolby Vision derived SDR stood up against the ‘hand graded’ original SDR version on 8 clips from Hollywood Studio content (both live action and animation). This presentation will explain the methodology of the survey and share the findings.

Automating the Digital Distribution Supply Chain

The pandemic and its ‘stay at home’ protocols, have led to an unprecedented spike in OTT viewership. Hence, content owners are faced with an ever-growing list of requirements, formats, and standards for digital distribution and monetization. But many of these content processing and distribution operations are cost intensive due to their manual nature. This presentation highlights on how content owners can streamline and optimize the digital distribution supply chain using an innovative cloud-based solution. The solution leverages on-demand content processing infrastructure and resources, leading to minimal upfront costs. The solution can provide a single interface to manage orders, tasks, assets, tools, and resources using tightly coupled layers of work order, workflow, and asset management with a host of automation tools. Besides, it comes with numerous preset Bots that automate packaging, check for missing inventory, and facilitate delivery to multiple platforms. Using Artificial Intelligence for content segmentation, thumbnail generation, and more, the solution can further optimize processes across the distribution supply chain. Adopting such cloud-based solutions can help content owners enhance operational efficiencies, achieve faster time-to-market and increase monetization of their digital assets.

Can A Display Be Too Bright?

Having enough “brightness” from displays isn’t an issue anymore. It is now possible, depending on the viewing environment, to have too much luminance from a screen. Instead, we should more accurately calculate just how much luminance we actually need by focusing on target contrast ratios.

AI Standards in Media: An Overview of the ETC-SMPTE Task Force

Few technologies have had the potential to disrupt the media industry more profoundly than artificial intelligence (AI). With its abundant datasets, high stakes decisions, complex products, and labor-intensive workflows, the industry is a prime candidate for the application of machine intelligence at almost every step of its operations. But this evolution faces serious challenges. The field of AI is still nebulous, expensive, and experimental. To help the industry transition safely and effectively towards an AI-driven future, SMPTE has once again partnered with the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) to form the Joint Task Force on AI Standards in Media. This talk will present the work of the task force and lay out some preliminary findings.

How to Use Semantic Technologies to Make IA More Efficient?

As of today we use a lot of image/sound recognition technologies available in the cloud to extract data from the media clips in our libraries: logos, speech to text, face recognition… those analysis consume a significant amount of energy that is growing exponentially with libraries growth and analysis complexity. semantic technologies allows to extract information from the library without having to go through a full detection pass, by inferring logical operations inside the description mechanism: for example if the soccer team plays on its own field, the shirt color will always be the same, and will be different if they play outside. This data is instantly available to the user, even if the info comes from different sources. We would show some examples where we could instantly extract extra information from the library and retrieve it.

New measurement tools for HDR workflows

HDR/WCG technologies have added increased complexity in production worflows, starting with camera setup all the way to post production. For post production, HDR workflows create unique challenges: how do I transfer HDR artistic intent? How can I ensure that my HDR content fits within the end user’s HDR display capabilities? We will consider a new set of HDR measurements that relate to the picture screen area, that aim to help answer these questions. For camera setup, each camera manufacturer has come up with their own way to compress and represent HDR content, leading to difficulties in both camera setup and in visualizing changes in light level (due to the non-linearity in the camera gammas). The talk will introduce a new type of waveform trace called as the “stop” waveform that aims to address these challenges.

A Definition of "Scene-Referred"

“Scene-referred” is a vital concept to modern media production workflows. It is an aspect of modern cameras, and is intimately connected to RAW acquisition. The concept is deeply embedded in the ACES system and in modern post-production tools such as After Effects, Baselight, Final Cut Pro, Resolve, and many more. Nonetheless, the concept is poorly defined in the industry.

In this talk, I present a definition of “scene-referred” that not only fits into a tweet, but fits into an old-style tweet of merely 140 characters! I also present similarly sized definitions of two important and closely related concepts, display-referred and mastering-display-referred.

Post-Production in a Post-COVID World

COVID has certainly had a massive impact on the post-production industry. Companies had to adapt to remote working, literally overnight. For
an industry where collaboration is key, finding new ways to work has been an uphill struggle for many. It has also highlighted a number of key factors that are important in a remote workflow.
As vaccinations begin to roll out, we need to turn our focus to what happens next. While vaccinations are coming, there is no way of telling
how long we will still need to adopt preventative measures. This session will look at how this will play out in the long term and attempt to answer a number of important questions: How
will post-production collaboration work with long-term social distancing? In the long term, should the industry adopt an on-prem, hybrid or cloud approach to asset storage? How can companies future-proof their content?

Computer: The Ultimate Communication Device

We, humans, can easily observe, explore, and analyze our four-dimensional (4D) audio-visual world. We, however, struggle to share our observation, exploration, and analysis with others. In this thesis, our goal is to learn a computational representation of the 4D audio-visual world that can be: (1) estimated from sparse real-world observations; and (2) explored to create new experiences. We introduce Computational Studio for observing, exploring, and creating the 4D audio-visual world, thereby allowing humans to communicate with other humans and machines effectively without any loss of information. Computational Studio serves as an environment for non-experts to construct and creatively edit the 4D audio-visual world from sparse real-world samples. There are three essential components of the Computational Studio: (1) How can we densely observe the 4D visual world?; (2) How can we communicate the audio-visual world using examples?; and (3) How can we interactively explore the audio-visual world?

In this talk, I will primarily talk about Exemplar Autoencoders, an unsupervised approach that converts the input speech of any individual into audiovisual streams of potentially-infinitely many output speakers. I will demonstrate its application as an assistive tool for speech-impaired and for multi-lingual translation. I will end this talk with important limitation and challenges posed by voice conversion systems.

Extracting Insights from Unstructered Content: Mindwave AI

MindWave’s SPARK (Semantic Platform for Automatic Retrieval of Knowledge) consists of a set of algorithms for extracting valuable insights from unstructured content such as news or journal articles, videos, social media, books and podcasts, and a set of multi-media APIs (OCR/ICR & Facial Recognition) and cognitive services that use the extracted knowledge to power intelligent applications. SPARK tries to understand natural language just as humans do, using a compact but flexible conceptual model for representing knowledge, which is then mapped to a structured data model and physically instantiated.
We will show examples of content localizations: translations/captioning & the creation of content summaries with questions utilizing speech to text & text to speech APIs with middleware that “understands” context with Natural Language Processing (NLP)

Promotion vs Piracy

Pex has indexed every piece of audio and video content on social media sites (23 billion pieces of content) and has seen the gross piracy of film and video. In one trailer analysis Pex completed for a client, we found 4,121 uses of the trailer on social media were uploaded in 2 weeks, gaining over 194 million views. Promotional content is great for studios and rightsholders, but piracy costs the film industry around $1.5 billion per year.

How do rightsholders balance positive UGC and promotion with anti-piracy and anti-leak measures? New EU legislation (Article 17) is giving rightsholders back control of their content and helping them do just that. Let’s discuss Article 17 and how it impacts entertainment rightsholders.
