As the VP of Virtual Production, Addy is immersed in Studio workflows and Industry standards for real time visualization for film and television. Addy is building a Disguise creator community and strategies that will further the proliferation of Virtual Production.

Prior to joining Disguise, Addy designed and built world class stages for DreamWorks, Verizon Media and NBCUniversal to help creatives visualize their dreams. Addy is well versed in VFX and animation, as well as emerging formats like AR and VR. He is an unofficial Unreal Engine Evangelist and a Fellow, and loves to converse about the possibilities of game engines as a storytelling tool.

Alex Regalado has been video editing for the past ten years and post producing for the past five. Her previous credits include HBO’s “Room 104,” Showtime’s “Ray Donovan,” and HBO’s “The Lady and the Dale” – but most recently she’s post supervised three features for Duplass Brothers Productions.

A. Louarn earned his M.Eng. Degree in computer science from the École Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Rennes (ESIR) in 2017. In 2020, he was granted his Ph.D. Degree from the University of Rennes 1 while working at the Inria research lab (Institut National de recherche en Informatique et en Automatique) on computer science applied to previz. He is currently an Imaging Researcher at Barco/MTT Innovation in Vancouver supporting the deployment of Light Steering technology and the associated workflow.

Amy began her career in the media and entertainment industry in multiple aspects of the industry, including actor and producer. Amy identified a need for a faster solution and workflow for the entire production and the artist. The demands of rendering, animation, and visual effects required a sophisticated approach to computing. Amy knew there was a better, faster way to bring complex content to the masses.  She co-founded Silverdraft and has dedicated herself to enabling and accelerating the visualization workflow with complete solutions for various industries, including Automotive, AEC, and Media and Entertainment. Amy is a TEDx speaker and is passionate about technology and pushing what’s possible.

Andrea Kalas has worked at the UCLA Film and Television Archive, Dreamworks, the British Film Institute and Paramount Pictures as a film archivist. Her work on the Academy’s Sci Tech Council is a leading effort in preserving moving images with digital technologies.

Andrew Belser

University of Arizona

Andrew Belser

Andrew Belser is Director of the School of Theatre, Film & Television and directs arts/medicine initiatives the University of Arizona. Previously, Andy was founding Director of the Arts and Design Research Incubator at Penn State (https://adri.psu.edu/), a studio laboratory joining artists and designers with scientists to research and create art/science projects for national/international venues.

As a principal investigator on the NIH-funded project I Lookout for Child Abuse, Andy wrote and directed films to educate childcare workers. He also created touring films and theatre projects for an NSF-funded project educating citizens about complex environmental and social concerns surrounding Marcellus Shale Gas Drilling in Pennsylvania. Andy was named Penn State Laureate for his creation of FaceAge a multi-media installation and series of documentary films exploring aging questions in cross-generational interactions that toured the United States.

Belser was the founding Artistic Director of The Gravity Project, a professional theatre company, international performance research center, and new work incubator. Belser’s teaching and directing career has centered on devising new work and revisioning classics, movement forms, voice/breath work, interdisciplinary theatre approaches, and solo work. He regularly directs and mentors new projects. He is a certified Feldenkrais® practitioner, a Master Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework®, and Creative Director for the Fitzmaurice Institute. Belser maintains an active schedule of teaching Feldenkrais® and acting workshops in New York, Los Angeles, and international locations.

Annie Chang is the Vice President, Creative Technologies for Universal Pictures, responsible for developing strategies and designing innovative next-generation workflows across film and emerging immersive media experiences. Prior to joining Universal Pictures, Chang was the VP, Technology for Marvel Studios and held various roles during more than a decade tenure at The Walt Disney Studios. Chang is the AMPAS ACES Project Co-Chair and served as the Co-Chair of the AMPAS SciTech Council until 2022. She was the Chair of the Interoperable Master Format (IMF) Working Group at SMPTE. She is an SMPTE Fellow and is a recipient of the SMPTE Workflow Systems Medal Award, Advanced Imaging Society’s Distinguished Leadership award and StudioDaily’s 2018 Exceptional Women in Production and Post. In 2020, The Hollywood Reporter named Chang on their list of top “Hollywood Innovators.” In 2021, Hollywood Professional Association honored Chang with the HPA League Honor of “The Catalyst” which recognizes a leader who has successfully inspired and sparked positive change and innovation in entertainment as a “mover and shaker,” and TVNewsCheck recognized Chang with their Women in Technology Futurist Award. In 2022, Women in Technology Hollywood honored Chang with their WiTH Leadership Award.

Arjun Ramamurthy

Arjun Ramamurthy is Global CTO at Ateliere Creative Technologies. Arjun is responsible for the technology and roadmap of Ateliere’s cloud-native digital media supply chain and distribution platform.

Arjun was most recently the Senior Vice President of Technology at Twentieth Century Fox/Disney. In that capacity, he was responsible for setting technology direction for Motion Picture and TV Production, Post-production Digital Content Processing and downstream distribution and Digital Archiving. In addition, he was responsible for outlining and defining the next generation workflow and introduction of new technology and toolsets into production pipeline.

Arjun has over 25 years of experience in the industry, and was previously with Deluxe’s EFILM facility, and with Warner Bros’. Technical Operations and Feature Animation.

He is an active member of SMPTE, IEEE, and has chaired and contributed on a variety of technical committees and standards. He holds several patents in the area of Digital Image processing and Media Post Production.

Arjun is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a member of the Academy’s Scientific and Technology Council and, a fellow of Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

Arvind Arumbakkam is the Director of Business Development & Partnerships at Wacom. In this position Arvind oversees partnerships with Wacom’s variety of creative ecosystem partners with a goal of delivering the best creative experience, innovating, and pushing the boundaries. With a focus on lifelong ink, Arvind’s team works on innovations across the entire creative lifecycle – all the way from the first digital sketch a budding artist makes to the explosive VFX we see on Hollywood blockbusters. In addition to working with the ecosystem partners, Arvind’s team also works closely with artists and technologists in the M&E industry to continue to continue to push the limits of creativity.

Ben Baker

Ben Baker has had over 22 years of experience in VFX & Post in Australia, the UK and for the last 12 years, in the US. He has been a post producer and onset supervisor, a head of department at Framestore London, a VP at Vice and at HBO, always seems to be involved in bleeding-edge production technology projects and has the scars to prove it. He is a board member of the Post New York Alliance.

For the last 18 months Ben has focused specifically on Virtual Production, finishing the Epic Games Unreal Fellowship in March 2021, consulting for studios, networks and construction clients around Virtual Production through Next Gen Production, and is just completing Executive Producing the ETC’s latest R&D short, FATHEAD, currently in production on a volume stage in LA.

Bill Bennett, ASC

Bill Bennett, ASC

Bill Bennett, ASC has been a cinematographer for over 40 years, spending much of that time shooting television commercials the world over, for hundreds of major clients: Ford, Lexus, Coca Cola, Apple Computer, American Airlines, McDonalds, and Budweiser.

Additionally, over the years, Bill has worked on several feature films as a Cameraman, on either the First or Second Unit. Some titles include: Superman III, The Black Stallion Returns, Howard the Duck, To Live and Die in LA, Silverado, American Flyer, The Right Stuff (aerials), Less than Zero (aerials), Bugsy (miniatures), Waiting to Exhale (title sequence), Cocktail (aerials), Dante’s Peak, and Drive. He has also worked as 1st or 2nd unit Cameraman on the Television Series: 24, and The Fosters.

In 2004 Mr. Bennett had the great honor of being invited to join the very exclusive American Society of Cinematographers. He served as a Vice President and a member of the Board of Governors for the Society, for over 10 years.

Along with Ron Dexter, ASC in the early 80’s, Mr. Bennett co-invented a device at the request of Robert Dalva, the Director of The Black Stallion Returns, called the Terra-Flite. Designed to allow smooth camera movement over rough terrain, it pre-dated the invention of the Steadicam, and utilized then-new technologies they had to create: gyroscopic stabilization, remote follow-focus, video assist, and remote pan and tilt control.

Mr. Bennett was partner with Howard Preston in the design and creation of the Preston Cinema Systems Micro-Force Zoom Control, which has become an indispensable standard of the industry, used on every set around the world.

Mr. Bennett has long been an advisor to Arri in the design of their cameras, having great influence in the design of the 435 film camera, and more recently the Alexa and Alexa Mini digital cameras. He has over the years shot demonstration films for Arri and Zeiss,
for their many models of cameras and lenses.

Mr. Bennett is holds a USA Federal Aviation Administration Pilots License, with Commercial, Multi-engine, and Instrument ratings, with 2,880 hours logged flying time. He owns and flies a Beechcraft Bonanza A36 aircraft. He is a PADI certified Scuba diver with an Open Water rating.

Brad Rochon is Vice President, Sales and Marketing – North America at Pixotope Technologies AS, a Norwegian-based global leader in Virtual/Mixed Reality Production Solutions. Brad has 30+ years of experience and expertise in the media and entertainment industry, including senior roles in engineering, marketing, sales and product management. He has assembled and led several high-performing teams as well as launched to market multiple industry leading technologies. Brad enjoys time with friends and family, especially when centered around travel, food and outdoor activities. Brad is a proud dual Canadian/US citizen and resides in Los Angeles with his two amazing children.

Brian Gaffney is a seasoned workflow specialist working alongside media and entertainment companies over the last 25 years, including Technicolor, PIX System, CODEX, Turbo Squid, and Autodesk in support of Visual Effects, Games Development, Content Management and real-time 3D virtual production. Brian is a creative technologist who assists artists and engineers in realizing their creative visions and currently works at Unity 3D with the Professional Artistry team.

Buzz Hays

Buzz Hays is one of the world’s leading experts on advanced imaging production and technology in the media and entertainment industry. Buzz is responsible for Google Cloud’s Content Creation Solutions development in the Media and Entertainment Vertical. He works closely with the top M&E customers of Google Cloud to tailor and build solutions to transform traditional methodologies into cloud native workflows from production to post-production to archive migration.

Buzz has been involved in technology for media and entertainment for over 30 years with Google, Lytro, Sony, and Lucasfilm THX. He has produced numerous film and television projects for Disney, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. He is a member of SMPTE, he is the founding Chairman of the Advanced Imaging Society, and he is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences where he serves on the Science and Technology Council.

Buzz has been with Google since March of 2018.

Carolyn Giardina

Carolyn Giardina

Carolyn Giardina is senior entertainment technology and crafts editor at Variety Intelligence Platform (VIP+), a division of Variety that operates a digital subscription offering analyzing the media and technology industries; and entertainment news leader Variety.

She took on that role in February 2024, following more than a decade at The Hollywood Reporter, where as tech editor she covered everything from artificial intelligence to the Academy Awards. She also has worked in the U.S. and aboard, as an editor, reporter or columnist, on titles including Cinema Editor, SHOOT, The IBC Daily and SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal.

No stranger to the community, Carolyn served multiple terms on the HPA Board of Directors, during which time she co-founded and was founding chair of the HPA Awards; and more recently helped plan and moderate a series of remote panels as part of the HPA Industry Recovery Task Force amid the early days of the COVID-19 outbreak.

For her industry contributions, Carolyn has been honored with American Cinema Editors’ Robert Wise Award for journalistic illumination of the art of film editing, the International Cinematographers Guild’s Technicolor William A. Fraker Award for journalistic contributions to cinematography, and the Advanced Imaging Society’s Distinguished Leadership Lumiere Award.

With a commitment to education, she also co-authored Exploring 3D: The New Grammar of Stereoscopic Filmmaking (Focal Press, 2013) and is a lecturer at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film & Media Arts.

c. Craig is a filmmaker from New Orleans’ 7th Ward neighborhood. He is a recipient of the George Lucas Family Scholarship and the Edward Small Award for writing and directing at USC in addition to being a finalist for Hillman Grad’s Rising Voices initiative.

His screenplays have received distinction from The Blacklist, Sundance Screenwriters Lab, Sundance Episodic Lab, the Nicholl Fellowship, in addition to the Award in Screenwriting from Columbia University. His producing work, The Cypher, premiered at Tribeca and was nominated best student short.

Chase Hagen is a Camera Technical Sales Representative at ARRI Inc. He deals with the sales and technical support for the entire line up of ARRI Camera system products including Cameras, Cine Lenses, Electronic and Mechanical Professional Camera Accessories.

While at ARRI, Chase has been involved with projects such as the Cinematic Multicam integration of AMIRA and ALEXA MINI at Coachella 2019.

He has a BFA in Film – Cinematography from Art Center College of Design in California. He worked a freelance cinematographer for a few years after graduating and before joining ARRI in 2016.

Chris Lennon

Chris Lennon serves in Ross Video’s Office of the CTO as Director, Standards Strategy. He is responsible for Ross’ activities in standards and trade organizations, as well as its global thought leadership program.

Chris also serves as Executive Director of the Open Services Alliance (OSA), a global industry organization focused on interoperability among microservice oriented media systems, now a part of SMPTE’s Rapid Industry Solutions. The OSA produced the media industry’s first microservices standards and continues to lead the way in this rapidly evolving area.

Chris has held a variety of leadership positions in the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE),
including Standards Director, Western US Governor, Local Section Chair, and Chair of multiple Technology Committees. He is a SMPTE Fellow and recipient of SMPTE’s prestigious 2008 Citation. He currently is a manager of the SMPTE Rocky Mountain Section and serves on the IABM Board.

Craig has spent most of his career in the entertainment industry, and for the past 20 years has held executive positions in post production and at Hollywood film and television studios, most recently as CEO of Crafty Apes, a visual effects company that works on Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster movies and premier TV shows. Prior to that, he spent three and a half years building and leading the Worldwide Post Production organization at Amazon Studios. Craig is currently advising corporate and startup clients on business strategy, product roadmap, market assessment, and sales outreach.

Craig Kief, ASC is a cinematographer working in films, television, and commercials. His recent work includes Muppets Haunted Mansion for Disney+ (shot largely on a LED volume), 2 seasons of The Unicorn for CBS, and The Kids Are Alright for ABC. Craig is a member of the ASC’s MITC Lens and Solid State Lighting committees, and a co-chair of the Future Practices Committee. Prior to becoming a cinematographer he worked as a gaffer for 10 years. Craig has also served as both a formal and informal consultant to film lighting manufacturers, including a key role in the development of ETC’s fos/4 lighting fixtures.

Dado Valentic is an award-winning Colorist and Color Scientist with 15+ years of industry experience. He is a founder of several companies, London’s Mytherapy – a high-end picture post-production company in London, international color training and consulting company Colour.Training and LA-based image processing software company Color Intelligence. He is commonly engaged as a consultant for networks, production and post-production companies and businesses in TV, Advertising and Film production. Dado is a lecturer at universities, and film schools in Los Angeles, New York, London, Amsterdam, Moscow, Singapore and Sydney. He is a specialist in the field of HDR and Colour Management and his research was funded by Google, Nvidia and the British Film Institute. Dado is the creator of Colourlab Ai, and his current focus is in the area of the development of image processing systems that are using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for image manipulation.

Dan Pack has been immersed in the world of production and post from the beginning of his career. Starting in commercial production, his passion for pushing the boundaries of creative technology led him to co-found Brooklyn-based Silver Spoon, a leading provider of real-time animation and virtual production for all screens, from broadcast AR and XR/LED production to emerging social media formats. As their Managing Director, Dan oversees all production, client relationships and R&D. Working with his team they have contributed their motion capture and animation services to numerous commercials, video games, television shows, and features such as the first-ever avatar singing competition show, Alter Ego.

Dan Perry is the Sales and Business Development Manager for Sony Imaging Products and Solutions of Americas. Dan is an ASC Associate Member and recipient of the 2016 SOC President’s Award. Over a career that has spanned 20 years, Dan has worked in Cinema, Live Events, and Unscripted while developing a reputation for solid relationships and a deep desire to meet the needs of the industry.

Dan’s first experience in the Cinema industry was working with legends Denny and Terry Clairmont to improve the F900. This included working closely with Sony Engineers to create custom modifications to meet the needs of production crews.

Dan supported the industry’s desire to bridge the gap between Broadcast and Cinema for cinematic multi-cam production. This included working with Sony and 3rd parties to deliver the necessary equipment to meet the needs of this hybrid production. More recently, Dan was instrumental in the launch of Sony’s flagship digital cinema camera, the VENICE 2.

Dane Brehm

Dane Brehm, Production Technologist & L600 Digital Imaging Technician has a long-standing desire to BE at the forefront of creativity, technology, sustainability, and workflow. His direct approach, sharing personality, and consideration for bringing meaningful approaches to workflow techniques and solutions is his passion.

Dane balances his time between working on-set as a ICG DIT for ASC DPs; while running Cintegral.tech, a workflow company that focuses on introducing and implementing rentable high-performance enterprise NVMe/ SSD Storage and RAID systems. These systems improve the efficiency, cost effectiveness while increasing productivity for the End User on Location or on Stage. Cintegral’s creed the last six years has been “Fast Drives, Saves Lives”

Dane’s company Cintegral has supported over 474 productions since 2016 to bridge modern 4K/6K/8K Studio and Streaming content data footprint for large format-multi-camera-VFX intensive Feature Films, Television shows, and Music Festivals. Dane’s connective personality has forged deep partnerships with  OEMs and Suppliers to develop tools and software for Union and Non-Union crews across the US, Pacific, Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Dane is an ASC Technical Instructor, SMPTE and Local 600 member, as well as a participant in the ASC-MITC Advanced Data Management working group.  He is a founding member of the DIT super group “DIT-WIT,” which comprises over 350 global members to discuss, share, develop, and execute the creative and technical needs of present and future productions. When he’s not participating he enjoys traveling with his Wife and Family, LAFC Football Matches, and is a avid Motorcyclist.

Dane Smith has 2 decades of experience as a producer and innovator in visual effects and digital media production. Across his career, Smith has managed the delivery of over 100 studio and independent projects ranging from live-action and animated features to television series and innovative media techniques and platforms. In his role as Vice President at THE THIRD FLOOR, he continuously brings leadership, innovation, and strategies to provide clients with world-class visualization solutions. Besides his contributions at THE THIRD FLOOR, Dane continues to educate, inspire and mentor the next generation of digital artists as a faculty member at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film Arts as well as his active roles as a managing member of the VES, BAFTA and the Producers Guild of America.

David Bourgeois

David started in the broadcast industry by joining I-Movix as CTO, manufacturing slow-motion camera systems based on Vision Research Phantom cameras for the live sport events. David founded Cyanview in 2015 which designs camera control interfaces to integrate any kind of specialty cameras in broadcast workflows. This includes shading panels, interfaces for various cameras, lenses or other accessories and robotics. These products now also take place into smaller productions providing remote shading and lens control to mid-range D-Cinema cameras. The architecture being all IP based, this is now also used for remote productions where any camera controlled locally can now be also controlled over the internet.

David always worked closely with video engineers in order to bring the best out of each camera in terms of image control and quality. The VP4 is a unique video processor designed to help with camera matching. The current interest in integrating D-Cinema cameras into broadcast workflows will lead to some new designs around this solution to combine the requirements of live shading with the creativity of post production grading.

David Morin

David is Director, Industry Relations at Epic Games, where he works with the industry and the Unreal Engine team to develop open standards and the use of open source software, in virtual production and everywhere Unreal Engine is used. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Academy Software Foundation, a non-profit created by the motion picture industry to develop the use of open source software in all media. David is also chairman of the Joint Technology Committee on Virtual Production, and a past co-chair of the Joint Technology Subcommittee on Previsualization. He has a degree in computer science from Laval University, and has participated in the development of motion capture and 3D software since “Jurassic Park” at companies such as Softimage, Microsoft, Avid Technology, Autodesk, and Epic Games.

Doug Walker

Doug Walker

Doug is the Technology Lead for Color Science at Autodesk, working on products such as Flame, Maya, Arnold, and ShotGrid. He is also very active in open source projects, serving as the Chief Architect on the OpenColorIO Technical Steering Committee and as part of the Architectural Technical Advisory Council for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science’s ACES project. He led the team of Autodesk engineers that developed OpenColorIO v2. Doug has been honored with the Natalie M. and Herbert T. Kalmus Medal and the Workflow Systems Medal from SMPTE and with an HPA Engineering Excellence award.

Eddie Drake

Eddie is currently the Head of Technology for Marvel Studios and is broadly responsible for supporting all live action production and post technology across Marvel Studios, Disney Motion Picture Productions and Twentieth Century Studios. He is in his 13th year with The Walt Disney Company, and prior to joining Marvel Studios in 2017 was Vice President of Product Development responsible for providing solutions across Disney Studios’ Operations, Distribution and Marketing organizations including Disney Movies Anywhere and the cross-industry movie platform, Movies Anywhere. A “creative technologist” Eddie is a 25-year veteran of the Media and Entertainment Technology industry and holds over 45 patents in the space. He has a background in editorial, animation, compositing and graphic design.

Intersecting with tomorrow today, On-set Virtual Production (OSVP) technologies, workflows, and infrastructure are Eric’s current focus.

As EVP of the Media & Entertainment Data Center Alliance (MEDCA), Eric and team bring existing data center infrastructure standards awareness and understanding to M&E data centric operations, supporting nearly all M&E production and post production workflows, especially smart stages and edge data centers. Well constructed infrastructure provides greater customer service, risk mitigation, content security, and opportunity for operational growth.

In collaboration with the University of Southern California’s Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), he is conducting a study of procedures & processes, including new technologies to mitigate sound reflection and room noise in an LED volume stage, collaborating with multiple manufacturers and software developers, as well as M&E construction & production professionals of various disciplines.

Also with ETC, working in various capacities with executive producers Erik Weaver and Ben Baker to produce a virtual production R&D short entitled FATHEAD, currently in production.

Media & Entertainment Background
Twenty plus years creating, acquiring, and streamlining various revenue-generating post production service operations at Sony Pictures Studios (SPS). From non-linear picture editorial equipment rental & support, to localization mastering & sound archive, and multiple services in between. Starting as an IATSE Local 695 union apprentice in the Sound Dept, Eric left SPS as founder and vice president of Post Media Center, with a U.S Patent in Camera Direct Dailies, to sail around the world with his wife and their two young son’s aboard their 42-foot sailboat.

Felix Jorge

A vibrant creative with a genuine passion for creating story-driven, interactive content through real time workflows, Felix Jorge serves as the CEO, Head of Virtual Production, and Co-Founder of Happy Mushroom. In 1994 Harald joined the ARRI post-production facility in Munich as an engineer in the digital film department. An engagement as imaging technology supervisor for the Lord of The Rings trilogy brought him to New Zealand. He later used his experience with the new Digital Intermediate process to support two productions of Warner Bros. in LA and London. Returning to Germany he joined ARRI Cine Technik to head the DI application support team. He wrote the The ARRI Companion to Digital Intermediate. His familiarity with the hybrid workflow was the foundation for the design of the color management for the ALEXA camera. Since 2016, Harald heads the team of image scientists at the ARRI Cine Technik R&D.

He is a regular contributor to the AMPAS Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) and a member of the Deutsche farbwissenschaftliche Gesellschaft (DfwG). In 2021 SMPTE honored Harald with the Natalie and Herbert T. Kalmus Medal Award.

During his time in London, Joachim worked as Product Manager, Digital Film Systems for Pandora Int. He supports SMPTE as Hollywood Section Manager and serves on the ASC Motion Imaging Technology Council DI team that has defined the ASC CDL standard. Joachim is an Associate Member of the American Society of Cinematographers. He also acts as Co-Chair of the ASC’s MITC Next-Generation Cinema Display committee and Co-Produces the ASC “Standard Evaluation Material V2” short. Mark began his career as an Historian at Cambridge University, with several publications to his name, before moving into the media industry. He spent many years as a Director, Producer and Executive Producer, and won numerous awards for his filmmaking, including an International Emmy and a BAFTA nomination.

Mark was Managing Director of an independent production company before being appointed BBC Head of Arts, and then Head of Multiplatform Production. He was subsequently Controller of Production for BBC North and leader of the BBC’s End-to-End Digital programme, before becoming Director of Transformation for BBC Design & Engineering.

In 2015 Mark founded the DPP – the international network for media and technology – and became its CEO. This led the International Moving Image Society to give him an Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award in 2018.

Matthew Goldman is Senior Director Media Engineering & Architecture at Sinclair Broadcast Group. He has been actively involved in the development of digital television systems for 30 years. In the 1990s, he was a prominent participant in the Moving Picture Experts Group where he helped create the MPEG-2 Systems standard, the baseline transport technology used in direct broadcast satellite, digital cable, and terrestrial broadcasting. He also served as project editor for the MPEG-2 DSM-CC standard, the control signaling used in video-on-demand systems, switched digital video, and for DTV data downloads and carousels. Mr. Goldman was a co-developer of the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) standard. In the mid-2000s, he defined the broadcasting industry’s first compressed-domain program splicer. Four of his projects have been later recognized by Technology & Engineering Emmy® Awards. A technical paper on high dynamic range that he co-wrote received the Best Paper Award of the 2015 NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference. He is an author of the 2007 and 2017 editions of the NAB Engineering Handbook, and has been published in the IEEE Proceedings and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Motion Imaging Journal. Mr. Goldman received bachelor (high honors) and master of sciences degrees in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He holds six patents related to digital video transport. Miriam is the President and CEO of EqualAI, a non-profit created to reduce unconscious bias in artificial intelligence (AI) and promote responsible AI governance. Miriam also teaches Technology Law and Policy at Georgetown University Law Center, where she serves as chair of the alumni board, and serves on the board of the Responsible AI Institute (RAI). Miriam also serves a Senior Advisor to WestExec Advisors, and sits on the senior advisory board to the Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT).

Previously, Miriam served in U.S. government leadership, including positions in the three branches of federal government. Norm Hurst is a Senior Principal Research Engineer with SRI International. He has been staring closely at TV pictures for over three decades. The projects he has worked on include D-Cinema watermarking, CCD camera simulations, Sarnoff MPEG Compliance Bitstreams, and the DirecTv and Grand Alliance prototype MPEG encoder/decoders. Lately he has been developing HDR/WCG test patterns to guide us through the jungle of formats that digital video has brought us.

He is a SMPTE fellow and holds over 35 patents. He also received the SMPTE Digital Processing Medal Award and The Camera Origination and Imaging Medal Award.

Techniques from Paul’s work have been used to create key visual effects sequences in The Matrix, Spider-Man 2, Benjamin Button, Avatar, Gravity, Furious 7, Blade Runner: 2049, Gemini Man, numerous video games, and to record a 3D Portrait of US President Barack Obama. His light stage facial capture technology has helped numerous tech companies, video game studios, and visual effects companies create photoreal digital actors and advance ML datasets for facial appearance. Paul’s work in HDR imaging, image-based lighting, and light stage facial capture has been recognized with two technical Academy Awards and SMPTE’s Progress Medal. He has presented, instructed, and moderated panel discussions multiple times at major trade shows and technical conferences, among them SMPTE, the NAB West and East trade shows, the Hollywood Professional Association Technology Retreat, CEDIA Expo, and Integrated Systems Europe.

Pete taught seminars and workshops annually at the InfoComm trade show for 20+ years and a Senior Academy member of AVIXA University™ faculty. Working closely with clients in a wide variety of entertainment formats, I tackle complex, large scale entertainment projects. Finding ways to empower my clients with versatile design options, new technology and unique solutions is a continued mission in my new venture.

Before starting Lux Machina Consulting with two of my colleagues, I worked for Production Resource Group (PRG), one of the largest entertainment technology vendors in the world. In my first role as a production coordinator, I handled logistics, design and execution of large multi discipline jobs. After many successful shows and events, I transitioned into member of PRG’s full time event staff, where I designed, programmed and project managed some of the most preeminent shows in the entertainment industry.

I am truly passionate and genuinely invested in bringing technology such as high end media servers, automated lighting, LED and Projection systems to the film market. By merging new tools and products with the hard to crack film market, I am able to provide unique solutions to cinematographers, artists and producers. Having helped spearhead the modern use of interactive, immersive lighting setups on stage to accompany the ever changing VFX workflow, I have an intimate understanding of film sets, and the intricacies of that market.

Rod Bogart is an imaging science technologist in the entertainment industry. He began his career in 1992 at Pacific Data Images, followed by ten years at Industrial Light & Magic. At ILM, Rod was instrumental in the design, implementation, and deployment of the industry standard OpenEXR image format, which is at the core of ACES (Academy Color Encoding System). He then spent nine years as the lead color scientist at Pixar, pioneering file-based workflows with Pixar’s Image Mastering team and contributing to the design of the system which became the SMPTE IMF (Interoperable Master Format). Rod then worked at HBO for three years, researching next generation display and distribution techniques for high dynamic range content. Rod is currently a member of the Virtual Production Tools team at Epic Games, concentrating on color pipeline. Rod is a member of the Visual Effects branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and has participated in investigations for the Science and Technical Awards Committee for the past ten years. Stephen Lighthill, ASC began his career shooting network news and documentaries, including contributions to Oscar®-nominated documentary Berkeley in the ‘60s, Gimme Shelter, and CBS 60 Minutes. In recent years he returned to documentaries with  Boffo! Tinseltown’s Bombs and Blockbusters, and The Alzheimer’s Project: Caregivers. Lighthill’s credits also include independent features and television, such as PBS’ Over-Under, Sideways-Down, Hot Summer Winds, Shimmer, and for HBO, Vietnam War Story, and for NBC and CBS, Earth 2 and Nash Bridges. His contributions to the industry include many years on the ASC Board of Governors and the National Executive Board of the International Cinematographers Guild. In 2010, he received the Deluxe Bud Stone Award for Outstanding Educational Contributions to the Art and Craft of Cinematography from the ICG, and the 2010 SMPTE Kodak Education Award for Outstanding Contributions in Film Production Education. He served as president of the ASC from 2012-2013, and is a regular jury member at the Camerimage cinematography festival. Thomas Bause Mason is the Director of Standards Development at the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) where he leads SMPTE’s standards development efforts and industry engagement. He began his career in Cologne, Germany, as a computer programmer for automation software in the nuclear and automobile industries. Before his move to Los Angeles, Bause Mason worked at the West German Television (WDR) and Cologne Broadcasting Center (CBC), where he led the quality control department. In addition, he worked as an independent database developer. In Los Angeles, he became a postproduction consultant, building and running the encoding operations for Ascent Media. Joining NBC Universal in 2005, he focused on emerging digital media technology, spending two years in London to support the company’s international business. Moving to New York in 2008, Bause Mason provided proof of concept, product evaluation, and best practice implementation advice to NBC Universal’s various business units. He assisted industry organizations in the development of standards, technical recommendations, and study group reports. He holds several patents relating to watermarking, 3D, authentication, metadata tagging and VR.

He was one of the first to use Pro Tools to record and edit the orchestra on Hollywood scoring stages on over 40 feature films, including Collateral, Ice Age, Star Trek Nemesis, Solaris, and Serenity. He also produced and co-wrote a short film in 2011 called Agent MX-Z3RO for Avid that is still used in training curriculums. Tom Thudiyanplackal is an Indian-American filmmaker with credits including VP (Development and Marketing) for Bollywood blockbusters ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Carry On Munna Bhai;’ and a Producer for the Emmy-nominated nature documentary ‘Seed: The Untold Story.’

In a career spanning over two decades, Tom has traversed several industries and spearheaded creative ventures for Ogilvy Advertising, Reliance Communications, and Vinod Chopra Films. Tom has several feature films and television/web series projects in the works tackling a wide range of subjects and genres with common themes of searching for meaning and self-love.

Tom has co-developed a novel, mind-body protocol with his wife—she continues to overcome Multiple Sclerosis (MS) spiritedly. The protocol has proven efficacious in two pilot studies. It has a peer-reviewed paper published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine.

Tom wrote the curriculum to teach the protocol for self-care offered to the public at the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. In 2021, the Sanford Institute for Empathy and Compassion awarded a grant to study the protocol’s efficacy in combating burnout in physicians and medical workers.

Tom completed the Summer 2021 Unreal Engine Virtual Production fellowship with Epic Games. In addition to a BS in Physics, Tom has received formal education in direction and cinematography from Prague Film School.

Gaining her Juris Doctorate, from California Western School of Law, Victoria was appointed as an Assistant Attorney General of Illinois whereby she prosecuted cases on behalf of citizens without a voice.

Wanting to go promulgate human stories, Victoria pivoted into filmmaking as a creative producer. In 2008, she founded BOUSIS FILMS, an independent production company based in New York, offering development, creative packaging, marketing strategy and financial structuring for feature films, series, and documentaries. Starting with, LA COMMEDIA DI AMOS POE, an experimental film on Dante’s Divine Comedy, narrated by Roberto Benigni. Followed by ALPS directed by Yiorgos Lanthimnos (DOGTOOTH, LOBSTER, THE FAVOURITE). Both official selections at the Venice Film Festival. In 2012, Victoria produced WHAT MAISIE KNEW (staring Julianne Moore, Alexandre Skarsgard, Steve Coogan), premiering at the Toronto Film Festival. WHAT MAISIE KNEW is a commentary about the destructive affects and inter-family politics of divorce from a child’s point of view. Partnering with BCDF Pictures, she produced OUTCASTS (staring Victoria Justice, Avon Jogia, Eden Sher, Katie Chang, Claudia Lee, Peyton List), a comedic narrative about teenage
identity and cyber-bullying. In 2018, Victoria produced PIMP, an exploration of the Bronx underbelly via the eyes of a young, female pimp trying to survive (Executive Produced by Lee Daniels and staring Keke Palmer, DMX, Aunjanue Ellis, Edi Gathegi). It premiered at HBO’s Urbanworld Festival ’18, winning Best Picture and the Top Audience Award.

Victoria saw emerging technology as being the future of storytelling, and in 2018, Victoria received her Executive MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a concentration in media, technology, and entrepreneurship along with a Data Analytics Certificate to integrate data analytics. Featured in MIT’s Spectrum Magazine (Oct 2018), Victoria showcased her first virtual reality project, REVEAL, an introspective spiritual pilgrimage through Nepal and India.

During COVID, as a creative director, Victoria founded UME, a creative technology studio centered on pioneering the future of storytelling built in engine. She through fantastical virtual worlds, rich characters, NFT moments, and transformative experiences. In 2020 and 2021, UME created an augmented reality app for MIT’s graduation, THE GRAD APP. In 2021-22, UME joined TCP’s latest
film project, FATHEAD, to create the virtual environments for this film, FATHEAD, leveraging virtual production pipelines she learned as an EPIC GAMES FELLOW. In 2021-22, Victoria wrote, directed, and is the creative director of STAY ALIVE MY SON, a virtual reality experience and game base on the autobiographical book of Pin Yathay. It is an immersive journey through the fantastical and metaphorical heart of a father and Cambodian genocide survivor to unlock buried memories to search of his salvation, for decisions made. It was an official selection in the development showcase in Cannes Film Festival 2020 and International Vancouver Volumetric Film Festival.

Having an interest in technology and entrepreneurship, Victoria co-founded HORNET VENTURES, a private investment fund focused on technology start-ups at seed and series A. Her portfolio includes PACKBACK with Mark Cuban, MEERKAT, HOMECHEF, HACKER1, RONIN, PROJECT GRAVITAS, DOSEIT, JOBOX.AI, SOMA, FLOWR and DREAM MACHINE FUND to name a few.

She is also an EPIC GAMES UNREAL FELLOW and an avid activist serving on the board of ARTISTS FOR PEACE AND JUSTIC in Haiti, providing education for 2800 elementary school students per 2 year, and vocational education in the field of cinema and music. Her entertainment career has spanned 30+ years at Warner Bros. and Disney bringing emerging technologies into production and distribution usage, as seen in such hits as Lion King and Space Jam, and new technologies such as high frame rate, as seen in the Hobbit trilogy.

Wendy is a frequent speaker and moderator at key industry conferences, and is involved in many organizations to share knowledge and grow the next generation of entertainment professionals; currently acting as Secretary of the Board of the Hollywood Professional Association, as Governor of the Television Academy’s brand new Science & Technology Peer Group, and as President Emeritus of the USC Entertainment Technology Center (ETC). A Lifetime Fellow, former president, and former VP of Engineering (Standards) at SMPTE, Wendy has been honored with many awards, including the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award, the Bob Lambert Technology Leadership Award from the ETC, and SMPTE’s Progress Medal.  Wendy holds a BSCE from the University of Michigan and an MS/MBA (Beta Gamma Sigma) from USC.
